Thanksgiving is synonymous with a bountiful feast of rich, filling dishes and scrumptious desserts. That’s exactly what Martha Stewart brought to the table by spending the two days leading up to Thanksgiving baking pie after pie after pie, totaling a whopping 30 pies made in 48 hours.
Stewart left fans confounded earlier this November when she announced she was canceling her Thanksgiving dinner. Stewart, 82, decided to pass off on hosting in favor of visiting several friends’ homes for Turkey Day, quite the change from her roots as a chef and hostess whose catering skills gained her some important attention in the late ’70s. But she still managed to wow everyone with her cooking!
On Wednesday, Stewart took to Instagram to show off her latest culinary project. “Finally finished two day pie marathon baked thirty pies,” she cheered. “Hope you like the photos,” she later said, “The pies are all spoken for – gifts for my employees and their families for Thanksgiving.”
She also listed exactly what was on the menu: “ Lemon curd, pecan, chocolate pecan, pumpkin and cranberry.”
“I haven’t tasted any of them yet but tomorrow I will report on taste and texture and appearance,” she added.
The accompanying photos show highlights of most of her pie project, with some close-ups of the artistry behind each baked goody., from the berry good ingredients to the creative crusts.
Although Stewart may have declared she “canceled” Thanksgiving completely this year, that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been partaking in the usual festivities, especially in the kitchen. In fact, that’s partly why she sought a change of pace.
“I’ve also cooked 14 turkeys already for my TV show, and I still have to [cook] one more turkey on the Today show,” she recounted on an episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show. “So forget it.” On top of that, nine guests canceled because someone got sick. Clarkson suggested Stewart was “all turkeyed out,” to which the chef heartily agreed, “I am turkeyed out,” though Stewart did not say she never wanted to see another pie again in her life, reaffirming just how timeless that dessert is.
