Renowned actors and longtime friends Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd experienced a heartfelt reunion recently at the annual A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson‘s Gala, hosted by the Michael J. Fox Foundation. The emotional gathering brought together the iconic duo, known for their roles as Martin “Marty” McFly and Emmett “Doc” Brown in the beloved Back to the Future films.
Tina Yothers, who played the role of Jennifer Keaton, Fox’s youngest sister in Family Ties, was also present at the event, as well as Fox’s family members, his wife, Tracy Pollan, and three of their four children — Sam, Aquinnah, and Schuyler.
During the event, Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at 27, shed light on his struggles and how he has learned to accept it. “It clears the deck of all the BS,” he explained. “It really gets all of that stuff out of your life, and you start seeing things that are important, like your family and your health and your career and your obligation and your opportunity to serve. It’s a tremendous gift in that sense, [But] it’s [also] a gift that keeps on taking… no matter how chipper I am about it.”
The actor further mentioned that he feels “so lucky” because of his “extraordinary family” and how his children accepted him the way he was and showed him all the love he needed.
Fox also paid tribute and reflected on the life of the late Matthew Perry during the annual event gala. He shared how he spent some fun time with the late actor. “He was a hockey player, and we played hockey together,” he said.
He further added that Perry was a very selfless person as he was one of the major supporters of his foundation. “I hope this isn’t indiscreet, but when they first made their big sale and were made millionaires for the rest of their lives, he wrote a big fat check to the foundation. We were really early on and trying to find our feet. And it was such a vote of confidence,” he confessed. “And it wasn’t accompanied by any self-aggrandizing or anything, he was just like, ‘Take it and do your best.’ I loved that.”
