Michael J. Fox has been boldly confronting his Parkinson’s disease with support from his wife and family since he was diagnosed in the early ’90s. In the year 2000, the actor launched his Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research and retired from acting years later as his neurological disease progressed to the point where he had difficulty speaking and had begun to experience memory loss.
During a recent interview, Michael revealed his greatest fear about his condition while candidly sharing insights into his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease.
During a discussion with Town & Country, the 62-year-old was questioned about his greatest concerns regarding his condition. Michael detailed that his most profound fear revolves around the well-being of his family.
Through his years of struggling with Parkinson’s disease, Michael had sustained a long list of injuries to his cheek, hand, and shoulder. Currently, he’s worried about the potential harm he might unintentionally cause to his loved ones. The actor further cited a scenario in which he might physically collide with wife Tracy or any of their four children while out on the street.
Michael also highlighted a remarkable aspect of his journey, explaining that even in the face of the unknown future brought on by his medical condition, he stands resolute and undaunted by the challenges that lie ahead.
The actor, who had initially grappled with profound existential questions upon receiving his Parkinson’s diagnosis, has since undergone a transformative journey. “One day,” he confessed to Town & Country, “I’ll run out of gas. One day I’ll just say, ‘It’s not going to happen. I’m not going out today.’ If that comes, I’ll allow myself that. I’m 62 years old. Certainly, if I were to pass away tomorrow, it would be premature, but it wouldn’t be unheard of. And so, no, I don’t fear that.”
