Heartbroken Courteney Cox Spotted For The First Time Since Matthew Perry’s Death

Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing in the classic sitcom Friends, was found lifeless in his hot tub days ago. For the first time since the news of his death at the Los Angeles apartment broke, Perry’s co-star, Courteney Cox, was seen looking downcast in public.

Cox was spotted leaving Nobu with her boyfriend, Johnny McDaid, and some friends. She appeared gloomy with her head down while she walked to her car. The actress got behind the steering wheel and stopped to touch her face and cover her mouth.

Cox’s character, Monica, was Perry’s love interest in the sitcom, and they both hit it off at Ross’ wedding, after which they got married and welcomed kids. She joined the other surviving lead cast members — Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer — to release a tribute to their late “friend” via People.

“We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss,” the statement reads. “In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.”

Cox and Perry had a real-life bond

Cox and Perry worked together on many occasions after Friends, and they both had good things to say about each other through the years. Cox said she enjoyed working with him on her 2009 to 2015 series Cougar Town, where he made a cameo. “It was so great to work with him. He’s so sweet. When I worked with him on Friends, he literally gave me my personality for 10 years,” she said.

In Perry’s memoir — Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing — he recalled not being in a good state when his and Cox’s characters got hitched on the show. “I married Monica and got driven back to the treatment center— at the height of my highest point in Friends, the highest point in my career, the iconic moment on the iconic show— in a pickup truck helmed by a sober technician,” he wrote.

They maintained their friendship from their time on set until Perry’s tragic passing.
