It’s a scene that can melt hearts – and certainly melted John Travolta‘s! Last spring, the Travolta family grew by one after the Grease star’s son Benjamin officially adopted a puppy he named Peanut. But Travolta hasn’t hesitated to show how adorable animals win over everyone, and recently he shared a social media post proving just that.
The world was introduced to Peanut during the 94th Academy Awards when Jamie Lee Curtis brought the delightful dog onstage during a tribute to Betty White, who famously supported animal welfare programs. Since then, Peanut has made cameos on Travolta’s social media – and this latest one may just be the cutest of them all!
John Travolta spends time eating with and cuddling Peanut the puppy
On Friday, Travolta shared a series of photos to his Instagram Stories starring himself and the adorable pup Peanut. They show Travolta seated at a counter with food and drinks laid out. But there’s still plenty of room for tiny Peanut.

In the pictures, Travolta is seen taking a big bite into a slice of pizza. Beside him, Peanut is doing something of the same, although he’s mostly taking a little nibble and pulling at some stringy cheese. The meal must have been good because Travolta’s other picture was of him and Peanut looking like they’re napping after a food coma, cuddling close the whole while.
Doing some paw-some work
Peanut’s life now couldn’t be more different from how it started or where it was anticipated to go. Peanut, originally named Mac N Cheese, as well as her mom and three siblings, were “dumped in a box outside the Avenal Shelter,” said Chad Atkins, co-founder and executive director of Paw Works, an animal rescue organization. Fortunately, Avenal Animal Shelter works closely with Paw Works and the latter group brought in the canine family to get them foster homes.
One by one, members of Peanut’s family found a home until there was lonely little Peanut left. Fortunately, she got the happy ending, nothing less than what animal advocate Betty White would accept. The 2022 Oscars were to pay tribute to the Golden Girls star, who spent her time working at zoos and advocated for animal welfare and protection programs.

When the award ceremony wanted to use a trained dog for that segment of the show, Jamie Lee Curtis put her foot down, saying, “No, no, no, we can’t do that. Betty White is known for her compassion for four-legged friends, and she was always a huge advocate of animal rescue. It has to be a rescue animal.” A rescue animal it was, putting Peanut in an unprecedented spotlight that left Travolta “eye-locked” the rest of the night until he could do nothing else but bring Peanut to her new forever home.
Here’s to many more warm meals, cuddles, and love from family, Peanut!
