Barbra Streisand Sends Off Cheeky Message To Jimmy Carter For 99th Birthday

Barbra Streisand and her husband, James Brolin, celebrated the longest-living former US president, Jimmy Carter, with a note for his 99th birthday. Jimmy turned a year older on October 1st, receiving many wishes from dignitaries and celebrities nationwide, including citizens who contributed to the mosaic created by The Carter Center.

Barbra’s note was short and cheeky— it read, “Dear Mr. President, One of my friends just turned 98, and another one just turned 101. Anyway, you look at it— you will live forever!! Sending you our best wishes,” with the bottom signed by herself and her husband, James.

The 81-year-old actress posted the note to her Instagram page with the caption, “Happy 99th Birthday to the great President Jimmy Carter! #JimmyCarter99.” Fans soon filled the comments section with wishes and compliments for the former president. “Hope his birthday is a beautiful one; he and Mrs. Carter are good people and fantastic roll [sic] models. The world needs more people like them,” someone wrote.

Others praised Jimmy for his excellent leadership during his tenure and after office since the ’80s. “In my opinion, the best post-president in the history of the country. He has contributed so much since he left office, while encouraging us to believe in ourselves and others for the betterment of humankind,” a fan stated. Barbra’s witty note did not go unacknowledged by her fans either. “Happy birthday, President Carter! Lovely sentiment, Barbra and Jim!” another added with a red heart emoji.

Jimmy celebrated his birthday with his family

The beloved president celebrated his birthday with family (his loving wife, Rosalynn, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren) at the one-story house in Georgia, where they lived before he got into the senate in 1962.

Jimmy’s grandson, Jason, commented on the patriarch’s down-to-earth nature despite his achievements as a globally recognized leader. “The remarkable piece to me, and I think to my family, is that while my grandparents have accomplished so much, they have remained the same sort of South Georgia couple that lives in a 600-person village where they were born,” he said.

He added that Jimmy and Rosalynn ensured they were a “normal” family behind all the fame and attention. Jason, who is the president of The Carter Center founded by his grandparents in 1982, referenced their kindness through the initiative in his birthday message.

“I think his time in the private sector and the work that he did at the Carter Center, really spending his life among the most marginalized and poorest people in the world and believing in their power to change their own lives and in the power of human rights for them and democracy for them, will be the biggest part of his legacy,” he told ABC News.
