Jimmy Carter’s 99th Birthday Plans Up In The Air As Government Shutdown Looms

A few weeks back, Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn were spotted at the Plains Peanut Festival in their Georgia hometown. His presence at the event warmed the hearts of the residents, who are now planning to celebrate the former president’s 99th birthday in grand style.

However, amidst the preparation, the residents are concerned about the event as the government is going to be closing down on services and agencies deemed non ”essential” if they can’t reach an agreement with Congress this Sunday. If the bills meet a dead end, the birthday celebration scheduled to take place in an enclosed building, Plains High School, will be affected, too.

Jimmy Carter’s 99th birthday has been postponed

Due to the tension in the air about the former president’s birthday, The Jimmy Carter Presidential Museum in Atlanta recently announced that the celebration will now be moved from Sunday, October 1st, which is the date the president will clock 99 years, to Saturday, September 30th.

“We want to make sure we are celebrating regardless of what Congress does,” Tony Clark, the site’s public affairs director, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The atmosphere is tense right now, and no one can predict what the outcome of the Sunday deliberation will be. If the bill falls through, the government will be left with no option but to shut down all federally-run historical sites, as Congress will no longer grant them the funds needed to run such facilities.

However, if Congress and the government finally reach a favorable agreement, Clark explained that there would be a provision to ensure that Carter’s birthday is extended through Sunday so that there would be another round of festivities for those who wish to celebrate the former President that day.
