Mick Jagger played a pivotal role in the formation of The Rolling Stones, alongside Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Ian Stewart, Charlie Watts, and Bill Wyman. Jagger’s influence on the band was nothing short of transformative. His magnetic stage presence, characterized by his distinctive voice, signature dance moves, and boundless energy, swiftly positioned him as the face of the band, captivating global audiences.
Despite the deep-rooted animosity among the band members at one point or the other, The Rolling Stones has survived six decades and they are set to release their 31st studio album, Hackney Diamonds. Recently, the frontman of the band was featured on the cover of Wall Street Journal Magazine, where he talked about his musical career and his journey with the band.
In the course of the interview, the octogenarian openly acknowledged the challenges that come with advancing in years. He explained that with old age comes certain feelings that may cast doubt on one’s abilities. “People feel helpless, useless, and irrelevant,” Jagger admitted.
Jagger also articulated his firm belief that The Rolling Stones’ legacy as a business entity will endure far beyond his own lifetime. “You can have a posthumous business now, can’t you?” he stated. “You can have a posthumous tour.”
As the charismatic frontman of the band, Jagger was tasked with a lot of decisions regarding the band’s running, and the singer claimed, he made a lot of mistakes acting in that capacity.
“I mean, it is kind of my role, you know? I think people expect me to do that,” the 80-year-old explained to the publication. “I don’t think anyone’s saying, ‘Oh, I should be doing the “clarity” role.’ I don’t see Ronnie [Wood] saying to me, ‘Mick, I think you should retire from the clarity role and the vision role and I’ll do it.’ No one else wants to do it! I just got dumped with it. And I made a lot of mistakes when I was very young. But you learn.”
