Joan Collins Pays Tribute To ‘First Boyfriend’ David McCallum After His Death

Recently, Joan Collins remembered her The Man From U.N.C.L.E. co-star and former boyfriend, David McCallum, who passed away a week after turning 90. The late NCIS actor died of natural causes at the New York Presbyterian Hospital on September 25.

Several celebrities and friends, including Joan, took to social media to pay their heartfelt tributes to David. “So sad that #davidmccallum— my first boyfriend at #rada— has died,” Joan wrote with a throwback photo of them on a set.

Joan loved working with David

Joan and David worked together at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England. The photo she shared was from their time on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. “A fine #actor a great #talent and a true #gentleman. Loved working with him on #manfromuncle,” she wrote.

Joan’s followers agreed with her, calling David an “excellent actor” as well. “Sorry for your loss. You will have good memories,” someone commented. “Good choice of first boyfriend,” another user chimed. Aside from the TV series, The Man From U.N.C.L.E, David was a fan favorite in movies like Sapphire And Steel, The Great Escape, and many more productions.

David had an admirable work ethic

David— who is survived by his wife of 56 years, Katherine McCallum, and their four children, was the last original member on NCIS since 2003. “For over 20 years, David McCallum endeared himself to audiences around the world playing the wise, quirky, and sometimes enigmatic, Dr. Donald ‘Ducky’ Mallard,” executive producers Steven D. Binder and David North said in a statement.

Beyond fans, co-stars also loved working with David and is “deeply missed” by them. “He was a scholar and a gentleman, always gracious, a consummate professional, and never one to pass up a joke,” they continued. “From day one, it was an honor to work with him and he never let us down. He was, quite simply, a legend.”
