The Batman series has been around as far back as the ‘40s, but not many today can remember the first people who played the DC crime-fighting hero. The first two Batmans, Lewis G. Wilson and Robert Lowery, are not as popular as the third, Adam West, who was the superhero for three seasons in the ‘60s television show.
One of the exciting features of Adam West’s Batman era was the “Batmobile” used in the series from 1966 to 1968. The Batmobile was a 1955 Lincoln Futura created by George Barris— one of the greatest designers and customizers to exist. Several replicas of the vehicle were made after the successful third installment of Batman.
Meet the Batmobile
The iconic Batmobile is a fiberglass body slapped over a 1979 Lincoln Continental chassis with a prominent black and red color. It has cockpit domes, flashing lights, interior switches, and gadget buttons that work like usual— although other components are simply for show, such as the turbine at the rear, the drag chute, a phone, a scanner, and even the themed horn.

There is also a Sony Bluetooth radio with a backup camera installed inside it. The modern black leather seats have the Batman logo on each of them, giving it a sleek fitting detail. There is no information on its mileage; however, it is powered by a 460ci engine with unknown specifications and tied to an automatic transmission.
The autographed Batmobile is up for auction
The Batmobile replica was finished in 2016 by an unknown talent and is no different from the original. The unique thing about it, though, is that West signed the vehicle the same year he died at the 2017 Dallas Fan Expo, which was his last outing.
The 1979 Lincoln Continental is going up for auction at the hands of Mecum in Dallas, Texas, in a few weeks. There is no estimate for how much the owner is looking to make, but it appears there is a minimum price set as a reserve.
