Director Sofia Coppola and Priscilla Presley had a chat with The Hollywood Reporter about the new movie based on Priscilla’s life. Priscilla revealed she was filled with mixed feelings about how people would react to the film, Priscilla, which would be released for public viewing in theaters by late October.

“I’m so nervous because it’s my life. The people who are watching, they’re living it with you, and you hope and pray that they get it. They get your feelings, your hurts, your sensitivity,” she told the outlet. Priscilla will premiere at the Venice International Film Festival this September.

Priscilla and Elvis started their relationship when she was young, and she revealed that she was overwhelmed about how to handle their relationship and satisfy the King of Rock ‘n Roll. “I lived in his world. I wanted to please him. I wanted to fit in. I wanted to have fun with him. I wanted to see what it was that he liked,” she recalled.

The movie bared it all regarding their marriage, exposing the good, the bad, and the ugly, which made Priscilla emotional when she first saw it in May. “I tried to separate myself and live it as if I was just a fan or just someone that’s wanting to see the movie. At the end, I actually, I was quite emotional,” she admitted. “Only being 14. You look back and you go, ‘Why me? Why am I here? Why am I driving in a limo, going through the gates of Graceland with Elvis?'”

More on ‘Priscilla’

Priscilla announced the memoir-inspired movie on her Instagram back in June, writing that she was “excited about the interpretation” of her book, Elvis and Me, by the “masterful” Coppola. “She has such an extraordinary perspective and I have always been such an admirer of her work. I’m certain this movie will take everyone on an emotional journey,” she added.

Actress Cailee Spaeny plays the titular role of Priscilla, alongside Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, who plays Elvis. An excerpt from the movie synopsis reads, “Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells the unseen side of a great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German army base to his dream-world estate at Graceland, in this deeply felt and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy, and fame.”
