Weatherman Al Roker celebrated his 69th birthday on August 20th with an eventful and fun-filled weekend, which started with Grammy-winning musician Jon Batiste’s touching rendition of “Happy Birthday” to him at the Today Plaza in Rockefeller Center, New York City. The singer also surprised Roker and his Today co-hosts with a birthday cake and treats for everyone to relish.

Also, during the Monday broadcast of the show, his colleagues showered him with praise and conveyed their birthday greetings to the legend. The weatherman also ensured his fans didn’t miss out on his big day. On Instagram, he shared a video of his tranquil morning walk by the lake and added an emotional caption, “Grateful for another trip around the sun.”

“This is my 69th anniversary of orbiting the sun, and after everything I went through at the end of last year,” Roker revealed in the video. “I am more than grateful to be celebrating this birthday. Grateful for another trip around the sun. And to all of you who sent good wishes and well wishes over the past year, God bless you. Thank you so much. I appreciate it.”

It seems the birth of his granddaughter gave him the strength to fight on while he was sick. The proud grandad has been inseparable from Sky, and Roker wouldn’t hesitate to show the little one off when he has the chance to do so. A few weeks ago, Roker posted a picture of a grandad-grandaughter moment with Sky. “I could look into this face all day,” he captioned the post. “But then, little Sky Clara wouldn’t get to eat, so I eventually had to give her back to Mommy and Daddy.”
