Screen legend Bette Midler was recently spotted during the SAG-AFTRA strike walk with her 36-year-old daughter, Sophie. During the staged walk, a paparazzi picture featured Bette rocking gray locks, a total contrast to her usual ginger and blonde hair color.
Fans commended Bette’s youthful looks at 77, while others had a thing or two to say about her new hair color or remarked about her uncanny resemblance with Sophie. “I thought I was looking at a younger Bette at first glance,” someone wrote. “Girl, stay blonde!” another remarked.
Sophie saved Bette’s marriage
The “Winds Beneath My Wings” singer has been married to Martin von Haselberg for nearly four decades, part of which was tumultuous. Bette revealed the difficult aspects of her marriage in 2013 while taping a pre-recorded show in Britain. According to her, Sophie saved their marriage as they agreed to stay or work things out for their daughter’s sake.

“We used to fight bitterly, we came to the conclusion that we wanted to raise a child, we wanted to raise a really wonderful child, we never wanted to hurt that kid in any way, and we stayed together until it got better, and it did get better and it was really fascinating,” she said. Thankfully, their decision paid off, and their marriage was filled with joy again.
Bette and Von chose to put family first
Bette has often praised her husband for being a supportive partner throughout her career. The couple got married within weeks of meeting, and Bette, who proposed to Von before they eloped to Las Vegas, shared that her husband taught their daughter, Sophie, to cook and helped her learn a new language.
“He has looked after me for many, many years. He’s sacrificed a lot,” she added. Von, for his part, credits their mutual sacrifice to put family first as the secret to their union’s longevity. “There was a conscious effort to create exactly the life we have,” he said.
