Peter Frampton Thrives At 73

Peter Frampton started his solo career in the ’70s after leaving the bands Herd and Humble Pie. His solo career was a success, giving him a spot in the history of  Rock music. Frampton has released eighteen solo albums, done tours, and continues to perform despite having health issues and retiring previously.

The “I Wanna Go To The Sun” singer retired in 2019 after he was diagnosed with a rare muscle disorder that “causes muscle weakness and damage,” according to John Hopkins Medicine. However, Frampton changed his mind shortly after and continued to work, releasing a memoir, Do You Feel Like I Do? in 2020, along with new music.

Frampton’s career had highs and lows

Frampton set a record for album success with this 1976 release, Frampton Comes Alive, which went eight times platinum. “It was a great sense of satisfaction, obviously. But that’s where I got very nervous. No. 1 is a little scary, because there’s only one place to go from No. 1,” he told Billboard in 2016. As he assumed, Frampton’s career has faced several challenges since then. Frampton’s manager at the time was ripping him off and costing him to lose a lot of money.

Frampton also got involved in a movie that affected his career negatively. “Is ‘Sgt. Pepper’ a regret? Yes, it is a regret that I did it, and I’m sure The Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb would say the same thing. But, I did it. It’s part of me, and it’s made me who I am.” Sadly, Frampton got diagnosed with inclusion body myositis in 2019 and had to retire from touring but not for long.

Why did Frampton get back to touring?

Frampton’s latest tour, Never Say Never Tour, runs until September 2023. One might wonder why the music act is back on the road despite retiring in 2019, but Frampton says he is “feeling strong” and not backing down. “At the end of every Finale Tour show, I did say, ‘Never say never,’ and I am always full of hope for the impossible,” he said in a press release. “I am very pleased to let you know that I am feeling strong, and my fingers are still roaming the fretboard.”

“Every note I play now has more meaning and soul. I love playing live and this fighter wants to stay in the ring for as long as he can. I’m so happy to be able to see you all one more time this summer. Much love, Peter,” he added. The father of three has lived a great life and still continues to showcase his craft despite several reasons to take a backseat.
