A biography of Marilyn Monroe by Anthony Summers revealed some events leading up to the blonde bombshell’s passing. The book titled GODDESS: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe gives an in-depth look into the late actress’ life, with accounts from over six hundred people and insiders with privileged access to her.

The events surrounding Monroe’s death are still a topic of discussion today. Recently Summers revealed that the actress claimed she was getting married a day before her tragic demise. She reportedly told one of her close friends she was getting hitched to a former flame.

Summers detailed that Monroe told a longtime friend named Anne Karger that she was “very much in love and was going to marry Bobby Kennedy.” Another event in line with Monroe’s words was a phone call she had with another friend named Robert Slatzer. She told Robert she was having difficulty reaching “Bobby” and later phoned his brother-in-law, Peter Lawford, again claiming she would “be with him” soon.

It is no new rumor that the actress was romantically involved with both John Kennedy and his younger brother Robert. The speculations went wilder after Monroe’s famous “Happy Birthday JFK” performance at the Madison Square Garden in 1962. Her seductive rendition and dress at the event made many assume the actress was having an affair with JFK without first lady Jackie’s knowledge.

A letter to Monroe was found in 2016

A letter found at an auction in 2016 further confirmed Monroe’s affair with Bobby. The letter addressed to Monroe by Jean Kennedy Smith read, “Understand that you and Bobby are the new item,” and “We all think you should come with him when he comes back East.” Per People magazine, Lawford introduced Bobby and Monroe, which led to a romantic affair in the summer of ‘62.

While the alleged affair happened, Bobby was married to Ethel Kennedy from 1950 till his death in 1968, and they shared eleven children. Monroe’s relationship with the Kennedy brothers was the most famous of her affairs; however, the late Hollywood icon was also involved with influential men like Joe DiMaggio and Marlon Brando.
