James McCartney, who had always lived out of the spotlight, demonstrated his support for his renowned father, Paul McCartney, recently by attending the private view of the Paul McCartney Photographs 1963-64: Eyes of the Storm exhibition.
The event took place at the National Portrait Gallery in London, where James was joined by his siblings, Mary and Stella, as well as the Beatles starâs wife, Nancy Shevell, who graced the occasion. Jamesâ appearance at the event sparked a discussion online where netizens made a comparison between his and his fatherâs facial looks.
An article by DailyMail highlighting the resemblance, or lack thereof, between James McCartney and his father, Paul, during recent events in London elicited mixed reactions from fans. âPaul McCartney was good-looking as a young man; sadly, his son has not inherited the handsome gene,â a Facebook user wrote. Another person stated, âHe looks older than his dad.â
However, some others swung in to defend James. âWow, look at all the women body shaming the poor guy for his looks,â someone else wrote on Facebook. âIf it was a woman, they would be all up in arms if there were any negative comments, leave him alone for goodnessâ sake, nothing wrong with him.â
Born into a musical family, James was naturally inclined towards music, and he started playing with his famous parents, contributing guitar work to his fatherâs albums Flaming Pie and Driving Rain. He also collaborated with his mother on a track titled âThe Light Comes From Withinâ before her unfortunate passing from breast cancer in 1998. In 2010, the 45-year-old released his debut single, âAvailable Light,â marking the beginning of his solo career. He followed it up with his first album, Me, in 2013, and his second album, The Blackberry Train, in 2016, both of which were co-produced by his father.
However, in a previous interview with BBC, James stated that his ambition was to be âbetter than the Beatlesâ and also shared his idea of potentially forming a musical group that would include the offspring of the members of the Beatles, which will include Jason Starkey, the son of Ringo Starr, Sean Lennon, the youngest son of John Lennon, and Dhani Harrison, the only son of George Harrison.
âWhen I got to a certain age, I realized that I was somewhat better than other kids at school at guitar and took pride and enjoyment in that,â he confessed to the news outlet in 2012. âI then dreamt of being better than The Beatles. Iâm not sure if I can do that. If anything, I would love to be equal to The Beatles â but even thatâs quite tough.â
