64-year-old Madonna has been rushed to the ICU after she was found unresponsive on Saturday in New York City. She was treated overnight and suffered a serious infection that required Madonna to stay in the ICU for several days with her eldest daughter Lordes at her bedside the whole while.

This health crisis comes just as Madonna was gearing up to embark on her Celebration tour, which was supposed to kick off in Vancouver on July 15. In light of her extended hospital stay and ongoing health concerns, however, the shows have been postponed.

By time of writing, there is no official word on what Madonna was infected with, only that she was intubated in the ICU, meaning medical personnel had to insert a tube, usually into the trachea, traditionally for ventilation – this may imply a serious case of pneumonia, but this has not been confirmed. She is now out of the ICU and is in a regular ward in a hospital that has not been identified. Additional details about the recovery process were also unavailable.

Madonna’s upcoming tour fell on the 40th anniversary of her breakout single, “Holiday.” Her last bout of touring came on the eve of the COVID-19 pandemic, with her Madame X performances running in 2019 and 2020.

This is a developing story.
