Mariska Hargitay Enjoys Italy Vacation With Husband In New Photos, “My Happy Place”

Mariska Hargitay is enjoying only the best things as she basks on a yacht during her Italy vacation. She and husband Peter Hermann are welcoming summer with bright smiles, lots of cuddling together, and some very scenic shots from the jet ski.

Mariska and Peter met on the set of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, where Mariska is a regular as Detective Olivia Benson. In season three, Peter had a guest appearance playing defense attorney Trevor Langan. Not long after, the two started dating, tied the knot in 2004, and here they are, relationship flourishing today. These are their 2023 vacation stories.

Midway through June, Mariska shared photos from her time in Italy with Peter. Her 2.8 million Instagram followers have been treated to a look at both the remarkable oceanside scenery and a ton of PDA shared between the lovers of the law. “Amore,” she captioned one post that’s dedicated to photos of her and Peter shoulder-to-shoulder. In the photos, if they’re not grinning at the camera, they’re giving each other a sweet kiss.

Another more recent set shows Mariska in a dark top and swimsuit, along with a black cap that reads “CIAO,” as she soaks in a tub, with a vibrant blue ocean and verdant cliffside visible behind her. Yet another photo focuses on a jet ski and offers a closer view of that cliff, along with ocean waves that stretch on forever. This one she captioned, “My happy place.”

Life’s a romantic vacation for these two

Filming had just finished wrapping for Peter’s episode of SVU when he approached Mariska and asked if she would accompany him to church. Something divine happened in that moment, according to Mariska.

“We went to church together, and it was like getting hit with a lightning bolt,” said Mariska. “I just started sobbing. Peter thought I was crying because I was so moved by the service. No, it was because I was just overwhelmed, realizing he was the one.”

Of course, they ended up getting married, and both “knew that it was going to be good.” Both were also enthralled at the idea of family and of forming one together. Peter once said he saw Mariska as growing and flourishing in a rich earth made up of “this abundance of people and this abundance of love and I thought, ‘I want to be part of that soil.'” Sure enough, their family tree grew, and the couple welcomed first son August, daughter Amaya, and second son Andrew into the fold. Even in the excitement of winning awards, like her 2006 Emmy Award for SVU, Mariska thanks Peter for giving her “the greatest gift in the world.”
