Meet Scooter, The Newly Crowned World’s Ugliest Dog

A new canine has recently claimed the prestigious title of the World’s Ugliest Dog after emerging victorious in the yearly competition, which is focused on promoting animal adoption awareness. At the just concluded Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California, a seven-year-old Chinese Crested pup, Scooter, earned the esteemed title.

The dog’s extraordinary appearance and remarkable story left the judges in awe, ultimately leading to his well-deserved triumph in taking over the title of the World’s Ugliest Dog from the 2022 winner, Mr. Happy Face.

Scooter had a challenging childhood

As a young puppy, Scooter was rescued by a compassionate volunteer from the rescue organization called Saving Animals From Euthanasia (SAFE) after he was brought to animal control in Tucson, Arizona, by a breeder.

The dog was initially adopted by a member of the group providing him with a loving home for approximately seven years. However, when the previous owner became incapacitated and could no longer care for Scooter, Linda Elmquist stepped forward and took in the dog, diligently monitoring Scooter’s well-being.

Scooter is crowned World’s Ugliest Dog

Tawny Tesconi, CEO of the Sonoma-Marin Fair, announced Scooter’s win in a statement. “We are thrilled to have hosted another successful World’s Ugliest Dog contest at the Sonoma Marin Fair,” he admitted. “This unique event allows us to celebrate the extraordinary resilience and beauty found within these special dogs. Each contestant has a remarkable story to tell, and they serve as a testament to the power of love, compassion, and the indomitable spirit of these incredible animals. Congratulations to Scooter for winning first place, Wild Thang for securing second place, Harold Bartholomew for earning third place and the Spirit award, and Rascal Deux for capturing the People’s Choice award. Their remarkable journeys and undeniable charm have captivated the hearts of people around the world.”

Elmquist expressed happiness at the crowning of Scooter stating that the dog deserved the accolades. “I am overjoyed and incredibly proud,” she explained. “Despite the challenges he has faced with his deformed hind legs, Scooter has defied all odds and shown us the true meaning of resilience and determination. He has become an inspiration to countless people around the world.”
