82-Year-Old Dionne Warwick Cancels Concert Due To Health Issue

Chart-topping singer Dionne Warwick recently canceled an Illinois concert due to a health scare. Warwick, 82, was scheduled to perform at Rivers Casino Des Plaines near Chicago on June 24. Her representative told People that while the event was canceled, Warwick is already looking to reschedule and get back to performing.

As a singer, Warwick’s influence has shaped the music industry. She blended her creative interpretive skills with a unique, sultry voice and powerful delivery to become trailblazer with over 80 hit singles and numerous top 10 hits. She is also known for her memorable collaborations with Burt Bacharach and Hal David, which produced “Walk On By” and “I Say a Little Prayer.” Warwick plans on keeping her remarkable career going; here’s how she’s doing it.

TMZ was first to report that on Thursday, Warwick canceled her Chicago concert because of a health issue that sprung up that very day. No official diagnoses have been provided, but the initial problem did arise in one of her legs.

“It’s a minor issue that has been fixed, and she is fine,” her representative assured PEOPLE. However, Warwick has upcoming shows shortly before and after that June 24 date, including June 23 in Pennsylvania, August 9 in Delaware, August 11 in Kentucky, and two early September concerts in California.

As for the June 24 date, the venue has offered ticketholders a refund and Warwick has voiced her desire to play that concert on a different date.

Even before Warwick displayed a readiness to keep on performing in spite of age and health scares, she built quite a commendable career for herself, which culminated in six Grammy Awards and induction into the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Grammy Hall of Fame, and the R&B Music Hall of Fame. Her journey started in earnest when she poured her passion into music at the Hartt College of Music before going on to sing backup vocals in New York, then meeting Burt Bacharach to record demos.

She’s been a part of the Drinkard Sisters, a multi-generational group that’s included many of Warwick’s family members. She’s been bankrupt because of business mismanagement. She’s related to the legendary Whitney Houston. Warwick’s life has it all, and that compelling story will be told in an upcoming biopic starring Teyana Taylor as Warwick herself.

“We’re already working on it,” Taylor teased. “We’re in the building process right now. I always wanted to make sure I could lock in with any person that I would be playing.”
