Tina Turner, popularly referred to as the Queen of Rock ‘n Roll, recently passed away on May 24, 2023, at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Küsnacht near Zurich, Switzerland. Throughout her life, the late singer faced various health challenges, which include intestinal cancer and high blood pressure resulting from kidney disease.
Following her passing, Stephen Sills, a close and trusted confidant of the Rock ‘n Roll icon, has recently shared insight on how Turner lived her life in her final days in an interview with People.
Stephen Sills says she was ‘not scared of death
Sills revealed that despite facing her own mortality, Turner exhibited a remarkable absence of fear toward death. Instead, she embraced life to the fullest, finding happiness and contentment in her peaceful home in Switzerland. “She told me two years ago, she said, ‘Stephen, I’m ready to go anytime. I’m not scared of death,” the confidant recalled her conversation with her. “I’ve had a last part of life. I’ve enjoyed it, but I’m tired.'”

Sills also made reference to a recent phone conversation with Turner’s housekeeper, which showed that she was content and at ease with her life. “I said, ‘How’s she doing?’ [The housekeeper] said, ‘She’s happy, and she’s comfortable,” Turner’s friend revealed. “Everything’s good.’”
Dechen Shak-Dagsay, a Tibetan Buddhist mantras singer, also recently made a statement to Dailymail.com about the late singer. The singer explained that Turner made a deliberate decision to withdraw from the public eye in the final years of her life in a bid to meticulously prepare for a peaceful passing. “Tina told me, ‘I’m not afraid of dying.’ She was curious to see what is coming,” she confessed. “I did not see Tina for the last couple of years after she began suffering serious health problems. But I know she was not afraid of dying.”

In the course of the interview, Sills was full of praises for Turner and described her as a good companion. “She was such an amazing friend, and she had such a force of creativity,” he explained. “The Tina Turner persona of performing, that was a made-up person. We used to talk about it, and she created that, and it was a beautiful image. But she was absolutely positive and energetic and interested and curious. She was just an amazing person.”
An undisclosed source from the music industry also revealed that the late singer enjoyed peace and tranquility in her last days. “In her final years, she was happy and secure in her relationship. She had found true love and was able to live without fear,” the insider confessed. “She had a group of friends in Switzerland and truly loved the people she was around. When Tina was able, she liked to be outside and enjoy the air and beauty of the surroundings.”
