The Olsen twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley, who played the role of Michelle Tanner on Full House alongside John Stamos and other actors, were the only ones from the original cast that failed to reunite with colleagues on Netflix’s reboot, Fuller House.
Recently, while appearing as a guest on an episode of And That’s What You REALLY Missed, Stamos, who portrayed Uncle Jesse in the original Full House series, revealed that he was disappointed about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s decision not to return for the sequel. “When I did ‘Fuller House,’ they didn’t wanna come back and I was angry for a minute,” he confessed to hosts Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz, “and that got out.”

Following the conclusion of Full House, the Olsen twins starred in movies such as It Takes Two and New York Minute. They made appearances on various television shows, including, Two of a Kind, Mary-Kate and Ashley in Action!, and So Little Time. Despite their blooming Hollywood career, they eventually decided to retire from acting in order to shift their focus toward their flourishing fashion brand.

In a 2016 interview with People magazine, Brad Boyett, the executive producer of Fuller House, gave details of a conversation he had with the twins concerning their potential involvement in the sequel. “Ashley said, ‘I have not been in front of a camera since I was 17, and I don’t feel comfortable acting,'” Boyett explained to the news outlet. “Mary-Kate said, ‘It would have to be me because Ash doesn’t want to do it. But the timing is so bad for us.'”
John Stamos says Bob Saget helped him keep in touch with the Olsen twins
The 59-year-old stated that even though the twins relocated, his co-star, the late Bob Saget, ensured that the relationship between the whole cast remained intact. “The twins moved to New York. And I gotta tell you, one of the only good things to come out of Bob’s [death] Well… Mary-Kate and Ashley, we didn’t see them much,” Stamos admitted. “I mean, we stayed in touch a little bit, but Bob really did. And they were so great.”
Stamos further explained that after the death of Bob Saget, he has reconnected with Mary-Kate and Ashley and they have visited him. “You hear rumors, ‘Oh, they hated their childhood or they hated being on the show or whatever,'” he stated. “But they were, like, ‘We loved our childhood. We loved being with you. We miss Bob.’ They came over to my house. They brought a pork chop and sage. I don’t know why, but thank you? It was a frozen pork chop, so that was really nice. We stayed very close.”
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in 2021, Stamos expressed his thoughts on the Olsen twins’ decision not to participate in Fuller House. “We were disappointed, but we understood,” Stamos confessed. “I remember Lori [Loughlin] saying to me, ‘They won two or three CFDA Awards [Council of Fashion Designers of America]. That’s like winning two or three Oscars. If you won three Oscars, would you come back and do this?’ I was like, ‘Eh, maybe not.'”
