Bret Michaels Full Of Joy As He Celebrates Overcoming Serious Health Challenges Before 60th Birthday

Despite battling different health challenges from a very young age, Bret Michaels has revealed to USA Today that he feels good at the age of 60. The “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” singer had been suffering from type 1 diabetes since he was a child and also had a brain hemorrhage, and heart and kidney surgery in 2011 and 2014.

“I feel more passionate and just as excited as ever,” he said ahead of his birth anniversary. “I feel more energized and grateful,” he told the news outlet. “With all the crazy diabetes and the brain hemorrhage, I’ve been through a lot of adversity and I’m still here.”

Micheals disclosed that even though his medical issues have made him change some things in his life, he still performs most of the activities he loves. “It’s called adapting. So obviously I’m not going to try out for the Pittsburgh Steelers this year, but I can go play flag football with my friends,” he shared with USA Today. “I adapt and change with what my body can do. There’s no magic pill. I’m like a real muscle car – always fast, always fun to drive, but I just need a little more maintenance.”

The singer also claimed that his body is like a car which still has the ability to drive as fast as possible but must be serviced regularly. “It’s still fast, still fun to drive,” Michael said, “but just needs a little more maintenance.”

The “Jorja Bleu” crooner explained that despite a very tight schedule that keeps him on the road, touring for the better part of the year, he is very careful about maintaining his health. “I know it’s the opposite of what you think of a rocker, but I like the morning,” Michael told the news outlet. “If I’m off the road, I’ll be up first thing in the morning at the ranch (in Arizona), check my blood sugar, take my insulin, spend time with my family. I love getting out and jumping on my mountain bike. I need to get the rust and dust off. I like to have a good time, but I don’t fool myself.”

Michaels concluded that he is happy that he can live up to a milestone age. “I’m grateful to be on this crazy roller coaster and to be here with some of my good decisions and some of my less than trustworthy decisions,” he added. “But I have to be honest. When people ask me, I say, No. 1, what is my alternative? The alternative is not good. And second, I have no choice in the matter. My choice will be how I treat Nobody says, ‘Dude, I wanna be old.’ I feel blessed to have been able to grow old because I know a lot of my friends never had that chance and I live for them too.”
