Meet Frances Bean Cobain, Kurt Cobain And Courtney Love’s Only Daughter

by Peace A

Published April 16, 2023

Kurt Cobain, known as the leader of the band Nirvana, tied the knot with wife Courtney Love on February 24, 1992, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Frances Bean Cobain, in August of the same year. Unfortunately, at the height of their success, the pair began to indulge in drugs, which eventually led to the death of Kurt, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after several years of battling with addiction and depression.

Frances has since grown up, though her childhood was riddled with trouble. She was removed from her parent’s house when she was just two weeks old, because her mom hinted that she used heroin while pregnant. Due to the difficulties and uncertainties surrounding her life, Frances also embraced drugs but has since sought help and is now clean.

Frances graduated from Bard College in New York with a degree in art. Despite having strong financial security, Frances almost lost all lost it all due to her lavish lifestyle and her own drug addiction. She revealed in a 2019 podcast interview that she directly attributes those issues to how she was brought up. “The one way that I was shown how to live was to live in excess,” Frances stated. “Live beyond your means.” She added that getting sober made her realize she could lose everything.

Frances turned 30 in 2022 and during the celebration, she shared pictures of herself with family and friends having fun. She captioned the post with a heartwarming tribute and appreciation to herself. “30 !!! I made it! Honestly, 20-year-old Frances wasn’t sure that was going to happen,” the caption reads. “At the time, an intrinsic sense of deep self-loathing dictated by insecurity, destructive coping mechanisms & more trauma than my body or brain knew how to handle, informed how I saw myself and the world; through a lens of resentment for being brought into a life that seemingly attracted so much chaos and the kind of pain tied to grief that felt inescapable.”

The visual artist went further to disclose her plans for the future. “Entering this new decade I hope to stay soft no matter how hardening the world can feel at times,” Frances wrote. “Bask in the present moment with reverence, shower the people I am lucky enough to love with more appreciation than words could ever do justice & hold space to keep learning, so the growth never stops.”
