It’s easy to be more plugged in than ever, with phones acting as pocket-sized computers. Sometimes, a person can be plugged in without realizing it – and without any easy way to stop it. Such was the case for the hosts of The View, especially Joy Behar, who needed a helping hand from Sunny Hostin when her phone decided to turn on and refused to turn off.
The incident happened on Monday with Behar filling in for Whoopi Goldberg, who has been on and off the show for various health reasons. Behar was moderating when suddenly music started playing from her phone. Neither her efforts nor Sunny’s seemed able to make it stop so Sunny decided to remove the device from the equation. Here’s what happened.
While Behar was conducting her introduction for Monday’s episode, her phone decided to participate and provide some background noise, interrupting the program. Thoughtful, but the sound team has all the audio they need for the program. Behar laughed at the loud music that continued to play through her efforts to silence her cell phone. Nothing she did seemed to work. She beseeched, “Oh my God, turn it off,” as the battle continued.
She went on, “Stop it! And does Siri talk to me in the middle of nowhere? ‘I don’t understand what you’re saying.’ It’s like, who’s talking to you? I’m not talking to you.” At one point, Behar tried to live by the adage, “the show must go on.” All the while, the phone tried to be a The View participant. Then, Sunny stepped in to try her hand at getting the noise to die down – with similar nonexistent results.
Behar tried slapping the phone. Sunny fiddled with it. Nothing silenced the noise. So, finally, Sunny just walked off stage with Joy Behar’s phone in tow. It’s a move Whoopi Goldberg might have pursued after a few phone interruptions in recent weeks. In apology, Behar said, “I’m sorry, I have no control over technology.
The incident made for a spontaneous bit of humor as everyone tried their hand, unsuccessfully, at silencing the cell phone. Watch the whole event unfold with the clip below. Have you ever had any uncooperative technology incidents at work?
