Ron Howard recently penned a heartfelt tribute to a fellow filmmaker, Ivan Reitman, who recently passed away. Reitman died at age 75, known for creating films such as Ghostbusters starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, and Ernie Hudson.
“#IvanReitman was a remarkable filmmaker who raised the bar for all of us through his wit, intelligence, talent, & ability to present stories in ways once seen we would forever adore,” Howard wrote online. “Condolences to the family, Jason & all of those pals who helped him make the unforgettable magic.”

In his tribute, Howard was directing responding to a post by Jason Reitman, who is the son of Ivan and is also a director himself. In Jason’s original heartbreaking post to his father, he writes, “I’ve lost my hero. All I want is the chance to tell my father one more story. He came from a family of survivors and turned his legacy into laughter. Thank you for the kind messages. Enjoy his movies and remember his storytelling gifts. Nothing would make him happier.”

While many probably remember Ivan most for his work with Ghostbusters, he has a repertoire of tons of memorable films such as Kindergarten Cop with Arnold Schwarzenegger, the John Belushi-led National Lampoon’s Animal House, and also Beethoven, Space Jam, and Up in the Air. As for his son, he’s gone on to do a lot of memorable work too with films like Juno, Young Adult, and Up in the Air, and is a two-time nominee for the Oscar for Best Director. His most recent work was actually on the most recent Ghostbusters installment, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which he worked on with his late father.
