Elvis Presley’s Former Girlfriend Linda Thompson Says His Generosity Was Second Nature

The King of Rock and Roll could reportedly be a benevolent ruler to those in his court and those he felt could use some positivity. Accounts concerning Elvis Presley’s character vary greatly, but according to Linda Thompson he always offered her acts of generosity with the same ease as breathing.

On her Instagram page, Thompson, 71, who had been close to Elvis, shared a throwback interview of herself discussing the “Hound Dog” singer. In it and the post, she offered personal experiences and insights into his character.

“I’ve never seen this interview before!” Linda Thompson noted in the caption of the interview she shared in early May. Her caption went on to explain, “I was on the set of Hee Haw judging by my sweet country dress & my hair style! I hope you don’t mind all the Elvis posts…I just came back from the Lone Star Elvis festival in Dallas, & next week I’m off to Tupelo Mississippi for their festival!”

Thompson further noted the part that Elvis’ followers play in preserving his legacy, adding, “So even though he passed long ago, the amazing fans are keeping his memory, music & legacy alive! I’m happy to be able to give knowledgeable insight into who the man was.”

She then shares just who the man was, in her eyes

Linda Thompson’s career spans modeling, songwriting, and acting. For years, she’d been in a serious relationship with Elvis, gaining unprecedented insight into the nature of his character through the lens of her position. With regards to helping out those less well-off than he would become, she stated, “It almost got to be second nature with him, it was just a facet of his character.”

Thompson went on to emphasize, “Like drinking a lot of water or whatever, it was just a part of his nature. And it was really astounding if you just sat back and pondered for a few moments the extent of his generosity. It was incredible.” She recounted a story Elvis had told her, when he was only nine years of age with nothing to his name but some prized comics that he felt compelled to give out to other children in the neighborhood. From her time with Elvis, Thompson felt, “That spirit of giving stayed with him throughout his life.”
