Ken Jennings is best known for being a Jeopardy! contestant and later guest host and working on The Chase. In addition, he has a bi-weekly podcast, has written twelve books, and is basically a trivia whiz. He also occasionally shares some funny and even controversial tweets. In a recent tweet, he took aim at a very nostalgic candy brand.
He wrote, “DID YOU KNOW? Every roll of Neccos was made in a single batch in 1847 and they still haven’t sold any of them yet.” He also shared a photo of Necco wafers, highlighting where it says ‘since 1847.’
Of course, it is just a joke! Neccos were invented in 1847 by Oliver Chase, who also invented the first American candy machine. Over the years, they gained popularity, especially during World War II because they could be shipped overseas and wouldn’t melt.

In recent years, the brand took a bit of a hiatus but began rolling out new Necco wafers in summer 2020. The current flavors are lemon (yellow), lime (green), orange (orange), clove (light purple), cinnamon (white), wintergreen (pink), licorice (dark grey), and chocolate (brown).
