This was written by Johnny Marks, who was a very prolific Christmas songwriter. His other songs include “Holly Jolly Christmas” and “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
First released in 1958, it didn’t dent the charts that year or the next year when it was released, but in 1960 after Brenda Lee scored a few hits, this song caught on and became a Christmas classic.
Lee was just 13 years old when she recorded this song in 1958. Known as “Little Miss Dynamite,” she stood 4’9″.

Rockin’ around the Christmas tree
At the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
Every couple tries to stop
Rockin’ around the Christmas tree
Let the Christmas spirit ring
Later we’ll have some pumpkin pie
And we’ll do some carolingYou will get a sentimental feeling when you hear
Voices singing, let’s be jolly
Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Rockin’ around the Christmas tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone dancin’ merrily
In the new old-fashioned wayYou will get a sentimental feeling when you hear
Voices singing, let’s be jolly
Deck the halls with boughs of holly
Rockin’ around the Christmas tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone dancin’ merrily
In the new old-fashioned way
At the Christmas party hop
