Former Lead Singer Of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Gil Saunders Dies

Singer Gil Saunders has died after battles with M.S. and lung cancer. He was best known for recording and touring with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes for ten years. Later on, he had a solo career.

Gil was born in Philadelphia and found his voice in the church. He began pursuing a career in music as a teenager, starting with the group New Day. He was noticed by artist and producer Harold Melvin. Later, Harold recruited Gil in 1982 to replace lead singer David Ebo in his group.

They toured overseas with Billy Paul and The Three Degrees. Gil sang the lead on one of their most popular hits, “Today’s Your Lucky Day.”

Gil left the group and pursued his solo career in the mid-’90s and 2000s. His most popular solo songs were “I Beg You to Stay” and “Let’s Turn In.”
