Christopher Walken’s Dance Moves From Over 50 Movies Spliced Into Epic Music Video

About a decade ago, a wholesome video of Annie Hall’s Christopher Walken dancing resurfaced after it was taken down. A staff member of HuffPost Entertainment has put together clips of the actor dancing in 50 different films, joining them to make a music video.

The clip made it to X and Walken’s fans were grateful for the comic relief. “This Hashtag should made the world a better place,” someone responded, referring to #DanceTheWalken. “This has been around for a while apparently, but it’s new to me and just made my life better,” another delighted user added.

Unknown to many, Walken started his entertainment career as a dancer, taking lessons since he was 3. “It was very typical for people— and I mean working-class people —to send their kids to dancing school. You’d learn ballet, tap, acrobatics, usually you’d even learn to sing a song,” he told Interview Magazine, adding that he danced with young Liza Minelli, and toured in musicals.

Minelli once commended Walken, noting that he was talented in every way. “I’d been around dancers my whole life, having watched my parents make musicals at MGM, and Chris reminded me of so many of the dancers I knew growing up,” she said, with the Executive Producer of Peter Pan Live!— Craig Zadan, sharing the same thoughts. “I think that if he had been around in the heyday of MGM, he would have been a big star of musicals on film,” Zadan told Entertainment Weekly.

Walken became famous in the ‘70s, after starring in hit films like Annie Hall, and The Deer Hunter. He soon became a screen favorite entertaining viewers with his portrayal of characters and an unexpected tap dance in Steve Martin’s Pennies from Heaven in 1981. He also starred in Spike Jonze’s video for Fatboy Slim’s “Weapon of Choice” because he knew he’d be too old to dance in some years.

The 81-year-old agreed to the show of his moves in the 2001 song to relish his youthfulness. “You think, ‘Well, do it now!’ You know, you get too decrepit to dance,” he admitted. The actor’s collection of moves in the spliced clip is still getting discovered by fans who are impressed by his dancing. “In case you needed the creepy cool Christopher Walken in a dance video. I did,” an X user wrote in 2019. “Hahaha, and I guess I’m the only one who missed this when it came out,” another added in 2021.
