Eddie’s son, Wolfgang, also spoke out shortly after the news broke. “I can’t believe I’m having to write this but my father, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, has lost his long and arduous battle with cancer this morning. He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift,” he writes on Twitter.

Wolfgang ends the tribute with, “My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss. I love you so much, Pop.” Eddie had been battling throat cancer for years and had been traveling to and from Germany for special treatment. However, doctors revealed that Eddie’s health drastically declined in the last 72 hours of his life. The cancer had spread to his brain and other organs.
We will miss Eddie forever, rest in peace and prayers to the family.
