Even though Graceland is currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, fans can still see inside. Workers at Graceland are giving fans exclusive sneak peeks about Elvis Presley’s estate. They are also sharing some fun facts. In a recent video, the Director of Archives, Angie Marchese shared some interesting facts in the kitchen! This allows fans to get a closer look than they would get during tours.
In a recent Instagram video, Angie appeared in the kitchen at Graceland. She talked about a “hi-tech” item that was still in the kitchen. It was a microwave! Elvis reportedly purchased this microwave for $600. It was actually the first microwave ever sold in the city of Memphis!
Graceland revealed a fun fact about Elvis and his microwave
Microwaves were first introduced in 1967. However, they did not gain popularity until the late ’70s when the costs came down. Then more families were able to afford one and use it. Elvis passed away in 1977, so he definitely got to use a microwave before many people did! Do you remember when your family first got a microwave?

Graceland plans to reopen on May 1, 2020. However, it may be up to the state of Tennesee as coronavirus is still spreading. Graceland is also currently covered in red, white, and blue lights. This is to show solidarity in tough times and to share Elvis’ patriotism.
