Blue Swede: “Hooked On A Feeling”

by Kaye Bassett Millar

Published September 2, 2016

Blue Swede - Hooked

The Blue Swede version was the first #1 hit in the US by a Swedish act. It reached the top the same week ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with “Waterloo” and introduced themselves to an international audience. The 7-member Blue Swede had more hits in Sweden, but never again cracked the American market, even though their songs were all in English.

The essence of “Hooked On A Feeling” goes back to Memphis, Tennessee. The tune was written by Mark James, the same songwriter who wrote “Suspicious Minds” for Elvis. The song recently garnered attention apart of a very dynamic soundtrack to Guardians of the Galaxy. The song kicks off the entire movie and sets the tone for a 1970’s-themed soundtrack that is absolutely terrific. Below is a video of Blue Swede performing the hit, but at the bottom of the article is the scene from the movie. Both are surely worth the view. Enjoy.

Lyrics to “Hooked On A Feeling”

I can’t stop this feeling

Deep inside of me

Girl, you just don’t realize

What you do to me

Your lips are sweet as candy

The taste stays on my mind

You just keep me thirsty

For another cup of wine

When you hold me

In your arms so tight

You let me know

Everything’s all right

I, I’m hooked on a feeling

I’m high on believing

That you’re in love with me

I’ve got it bad for you, darling

But I don’t need a cure

I’ll just stay addicted

And hope I can endure

All the good love

When we’re all alone

Keep it up boy

Yeah, you turn me on

I, I’m hooked on a feeling

I’m high on believing

That you’re in love with me

When you hold me

In your arms so tight

You let me know

Everything’s all right

I, I’m hooked on a feeling

I’m high on believing

That you’re in love with me

I said I’m hooked on a feeling
