The voice behind ‘Sara Smile’ and ‘Maneater’ reaches a big birthday this weekend. Daryl Hall turns 80 on October 11, and he plans to mark it the way he always has, by going back to work. According to Beat Magazine, he opens a West Coast tour on October 19 in Reno, Nevada, with Glenn Tilbrook of Squeeze as his opening act. The run stops in Las Vegas and the Los Angeles area before it wraps November 4 in Denver. “I’ve toured with Glenn in the past, and I’m a fan of his songs, and it will be great to work with him again,” Hall said.
Hall was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, in 1946. He met John Oates in 1967 while both were students at Temple University, on a night when a fight broke out at a dance. The partnership that followed produced six No. 1 singles. ‘Rich Girl’ was the first, and ‘Kiss on My List’ and ‘Private Eyes’ were among those that followed. The pair entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
Daryl Hall After Hall & Oates

The duo’s ending was not a happy one. Hall took Oates to court in 2023 over a planned sale of Oates’ share of their publishing, and the dispute was resolved through arbitration in August 2025. Oates, now 78, has said it was a miracle the two of them lasted as long as they did. Hall has kept his eyes forward.
In 2024 he released a solo album called ‘D’ that he made with Dave Stewart, and he still hosts ‘Live from Daryl’s House,’ the series he started in 2007. Eighty years in, the songs still fill dance floors, and the man who sang them still seems happiest standing in front of a band.
