Reba McEntire Wore Dolly Parton’s Own Jewelry for Emotional Emmys Tribute

by Ruth A

Published September 16, 2026

Reba McEntire paid tribute to Dolly Parton at the 2026 Emmys in a way that carried more meaning than viewers may have realized at first glance. The country star performed Parton’s deeply personal 1983 song “Appalachian Memories,” but several quiet details in her outfit made the moment even more intimate.

As reported by Taste of Country, McEntire’s Emmy performance came only weeks after Parton’s death at age 80. Rather than simply dress in a style inspired by her longtime friend, McEntire wore actual pieces from Parton’s jewelry collection while honoring her onstage.

Among the most meaningful pieces was one of Parton’s butterfly rings, loaned from her personal collection. Butterflies appeared frequently throughout Parton’s fashion and imagery over the years, making the accessory an especially fitting way to carry a piece of her personality into the performance.

McEntire also wore statement earrings connected to the music video for the later version of “Does He Love You” that she recorded with Parton. Those details transformed the outfit from a simple visual tribute into something far more personal. McEntire was not just borrowing Parton’s glamorous style; she was literally wearing pieces that had belonged to her friend.

The Song and White Gown Reached Back to 1983

Even McEntire’s dress appeared to look backward. She wore a custom white pleated gown by Michael Schmidt Studios, echoing the white look Parton wore while performing “Appalachian Memories” in 1983. The Emmys also played an archival clip of Parton introducing the song before McEntire began singing, linking the new performance directly to the original.

That choice made the tribute especially nostalgic. “Appalachian Memories” reflected Parton’s attachment to her Smoky Mountain upbringing, so revisiting it more than four decades later gave McEntire a way to honor both the superstar and the person behind the rhinestones. Between the familiar song, Parton’s own jewelry, and a gown that recalled an earlier performance, every part of the moment seemed designed to keep her presence close. Reba McEntire made the Emmys tribute work not by trying to imitate Dolly Parton, but by surrounding herself with small pieces of the life and style her friend left behind.
