Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz welcomed their daughter, Lucie Arnaz, in 1951 after years of hoping to start a family. Ball later described becoming a mother as nothing short of a miracle after experiencing earlier pregnancy losses. Just 18 months later, the couple celebrated the birth of their son, Desi Arnaz Jr., whose arrival captured national attention during the height of I Love Lucy‘s popularity.

Although both children spent their early years around television sets, they eventually built careers of their own. Lucie became a successful actress and singer, earning acclaim on stage, television, and film. Meanwhile, Desi Jr. pursued both acting and music, performing with the band Dino, Desi & Billy before appearing in several television series and movies. Even after their parents divorced in 1960, Lucie has often shared that Ball and Arnaz continued to care deeply for one another throughout their lives.

The story of Lucille Ball’s children now includes a growing family tree. Lucie Arnaz and her husband, Laurence Luckinbill, welcomed three children—Simon, Joseph, and Kate—each of whom followed creative interests ranging from art and music to entertainment and business. In addition, Joseph and Kate have expanded the family even further with children of their own, allowing new generations to grow up connected to one of Hollywood’s most beloved families.
