USPS Raises Stamp Prices And Releases Nostalgic New Series

by Ruth A

Published July 13, 2026

Sending a letter in America just became a little more expensive. The U.S. Postal Service officially raised the price of its popular Forever stamps on July 12, marking another increase that longtime mail users have watched happen steadily over the years.

According to the Lansing State Journal, at the same time, the Postal Service added a nostalgic twist to the news by unveiling a colorful collection of Barbie-themed stamps that celebrate the doll’s many careers. The mix of higher prices and familiar childhood memories has created an unexpected moment of reflection for collectors and everyday customers alike.

The latest USPS stamp price increase pushes the cost of a Forever stamp from 78 cents to 82 cents. According to the Postal Service, mailing service products are increasing by roughly 4.8% overall as the agency continues efforts to manage operating costs and financial challenges.

For many Americans, the change highlights just how much postage has evolved over the years. When Forever stamps first arrived in 2007, they sold for only 41 cents each. Their purpose was simple but clever: buyers could purchase stamps once and continue using them even if prices rose later. Nearly two decades later, that promise remains unchanged, even as stamp prices have doubled since their debut.

Alongside the new prices, the Postal Service introduced 10 new Barbie Forever stamps during the National Barbie Doll Collectors Convention in Austin, Texas. The collection celebrates the iconic doll’s long history of inspiring children through careers that reflected changing times and growing opportunities for women.

The stamps feature Barbie as a nurse, surgeon, astronaut, firefighter, paleontologist, sign language teacher, robotics engineer, judge, soccer player, and musical artist. Each design captures a different era of Barbie history, from vintage uniforms and classic hairstyles to modern technology and contemporary careers. For many fans, the collection serves as a reminder of childhood playrooms, treasured dolls, and the dreams those tiny outfits represented. The release gives collectors something new to celebrate even as the USPS stamp price increase becomes the latest chapter in the story of American mail.
