Melissa Gilbert has officially returned to Instagram after stepping away from the platform earlier this year. The actress made her first personal post in four months while promoting an upcoming project connected to her lifestyle company, Modern Prairie.
Fans noticed her absence after she deleted her Instagram account during a difficult period involving legal allegations against her husband, actor Timothy Busfield. Although she continued appearing on Modern Prairie’s social media pages, she had not posted directly on her personal account since January.

According to PEOPLE, the actress returned to Instagram on May 13 with a post promoting an upcoming Instagram Live event tied to Modern Prairie’s “Get in the Picture” campaign. The announcement included a playful image of crochet dolls designed to resemble Gilbert and co-founder Nicole Haase.

Melissa Gilbert captioned the post by simply telling followers that she was back and would see them during the livestream event. The update quickly attracted attention from fans who had wondered whether she planned to return to social media after her long absence. The actress continued appearing publicly in recent months despite keeping her personal Instagram account inactive. She also recently participated in interviews discussing the legal situation involving Busfield, who faces multiple criminal charges connected to alleged incidents involving minors.
Legal Allegations Continue Surrounding Timothy Busfield

Authorities in New Mexico indicted Busfield on multiple felony counts earlier this year. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and continues to await trial, which is currently scheduled to begin in 2027. Melissa Gilbert publicly defended her husband during a recent interview with Good Morning America. She stated that she fully believes he will eventually receive exoneration and strongly denied that he would ever intentionally harm a child.

The actress also acknowledged that the allegations have dramatically changed their lives regardless of the legal outcome. She explained that she and Busfield are grieving the future they once imagined together while dealing with the intense public scrutiny surrounding the case.
