Leonard Nimoy’s son Adam is sharing memories of what it was like growing up with one of television’s most legendary science fiction icons as a father. The filmmaker recently reflected on childhood visits to the Star Trek set while celebrating “Bring Your Child to Work Day.”

Adam Nimoy posted a nostalgic photo from one of those visits and joked that while other children received ordinary office tours, he got “beamed up” aboard the Star Trek set. The memory quickly delighted longtime fans of the franchise and of Leonard Nimoy’s beloved portrayal of Spock.

According to PEOPLE, Adam shared the playful memory online alongside hashtags honoring Star Trek and his father’s famous Vulcan character. The post reminded fans how closely Leonard Nimoy’s identity became connected with Spock throughout nearly 50 years of television and film appearances.

Leonard Nimoy’s son later spoke more deeply about their relationship while discussing the 2016 documentary For the Love of Spock. The project originally began before the actor’s death in 2015 and eventually evolved into a tribute not only to Spock but also to Leonard Nimoy’s personal life and artistic legacy. Adam explained that his father often remained emotionally reserved, much like the character he portrayed onscreen. Although Leonard experienced deep emotions privately, he rarely expressed them openly, which made connecting with him difficult during Adam’s childhood years.

The actor’s commitment to Spock reportedly extended far beyond filming hours. Adam explained that Leonard intentionally stayed connected to the role even outside the studio because he feared losing his understanding of the character after so many years portraying him.

Leonard Nimoy’s son admitted that this emotional distance created challenges while growing up and searching for guidance from his father. However, after years of personal growth and recovery work, the two rebuilt their relationship during the final seven years of Leonard’s life and became extremely close. Following his father’s death in 2015 at age 83, Adam continued working on the documentary as part of his grieving process. He later described completing the film as both healing and meaningful because it allowed him to celebrate not only Spock’s cultural impact but also the man behind the iconic role.
