Late legend Michael Jackson’s daughter, Paris Jackson, recently took to Instagram to celebrate five years of sobriety from heroin and alcohol. She shared a video compilation showing years of addiction, her struggles, and vulnerable moments of exhaustion. It ended with a portrayal of her growth as she showed off her sobriety badges and clips of her looking happier.
Paris noted that she is 5 years clean in her caption, where she also listed the everyday joys she now relishes as a drug-free person. “I’ve found that life keeps happening regardless of whether I’m sober or not, but today I get to show up for it,” she added.

In 2017, Paris told Rolling Stone that her addiction to alcohol and drugs started when she lost her father, Jackson. At 15, Paris was clinically depressed and began self-medicating while also depending on substances to feel temporarily better. The 26-year-old was hospitalized several times and attempted suicide on a few occasions.
She recalled experiencing overwhelming feelings of self-hate and low self-esteem, hence why she attempted to end it all. With the help of therapy and a will to get better, Paris overcame her vices and is now flourishing in her modeling career and in life, as she recently got engaged to Justin Long.
