Target will be adding a historical vintage collection to their offerings this holiday season, and they come in different shapes and sizes to add some class to your holiday decor. The brand is making mercury glass available for those looking to try something new this Christmas.
Mercury glass stands out on Christmas trees with its rustic, warm appearance that makes it look like a period piece. These days, many opt for the cheaper version of mercury glass which deteriorates quickly to give the original antique effect.

The available pieces from the Wondershop Collection include the Wondershop Lit Style Glass Star, selling at $12. Reviews say it is perfect as a side table piece or home mantle decor. There is also the glass house at the same price with a minimalist but stylish design.
The last of the collection is the whimsical snowman with a top hat to match. It is arguably the most unique of the set, with a glossier finish and a more solid appearance.
Origins of mercury glass
Mercury glass dates back to the 1840s when it was patented by Edward Varnish and Frederick Hale Thomson. It originated from Bohemia and Germany and was later dubbed the name poor man’s silver because of its shiny finish. It became more popular as decades went by, with increased innovation for cheaper production costs.
Unlike the name, the pieces are not made from mercury as it is dangerous. It is simply created by blowing a double-wallet object and layering silvery metal between the glass walls. Aside from the unique decor, Target is also bringing special holiday deals including discounts on sleepwear, gadgets, threshold holiday sheets, Christmas-themed decorations, baby clothes and toys, and holiday trees and lights. Deals are ongoing until Christmas Eve, covering Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas.
