Suzanne Somers’ family is paying tribute to her a year after she died of breast cancer. The memorial was held at Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, California, and her family erected a headstone with the name “Hamel-Somers,” referencing her wholesome union with Alan Hamel.
On the stone was a photo of Hamel and his late wife from the ‘80s and the words “We Are One.” The touching visit to Somers’ grave site was followed by a less somber family luncheon, which took place at the couple’s Palm Springs home.
Suzanne Somers’ family celebrate her
Somers’ death came just before her 77th birthday; hence, she was surrounded by loved ones and family who showed up for the party. They ended up holding a little party to celebrate her life, as the event was all planned out, complete with lots of cake like Somers wanted.
During the memorial get-together, Somers’ grandkids gushed about how concerned she was for their future, and how she would advise them on the career paths to opt for. Hamel recalled her ultimate advice to follow instincts rather than intellect, and she was confident that the gut feeling never lies.
Never apart
Hamel and Somers remained joined at the hip ever since they met in the late ‘60s on The Anniversary Game. Hamel hosted the game show at the time, while Somers’ worked as a prize model. The 88-year-old admitted that they never stayed apart for more than an hour since their wedding in 1977, and acknowledged their co-dependent behavior.
Hamel misses his late wife dearly and is learning to enjoy solitude while coping with her absence. He currently keeps Somers’ businesses running, providing customers with cosmetics, supplements, and the Thigh Master for workouts. He added that he sometimes picks up on signs that Somers is watching over him.
