The vacation never ends for former co-stars Chevy Chase and Christie Brinkley, who appeared together in National Lampoon’s Vacation over 40 years ago. Just this summer, the two got to reconnect, enjoy a very familiar road trip, and inspire a lot of nostalgia among fans.
Originally inspired by the stories published in National Lampoon, the film series formally kicked off in 1983 and starred Brinkley and Chase, along with Beverly D’Angelo, Randy Quaid, John Candy, and Imogene Coca. This entry into the Griswold family’s dysfunctional world also served as Brinkley’s acting debut.

Earlier this week, Brinkley took to social media to share a series of photos and a video, all featuring herself and Chase. Each one shows them right beside one another grinning from ear to ear. In one image, they appear to be standing in an indoor venue, with Chase’s arm wrapped tight around a beaming Brinkley.

But it’s the other photos and the video that excited Brinkley’s 903k Instagram followers. They show Brinkley and Chase—still right beside one another— in the backseat of a moving car, the sunroof wide open and throwing light onto their happy expressions.
“I can hear this picture,” one fan commented, adding, “HOLIDAY ROAD.”
Indeed, in keeping with the theme, Brinkley captioned her post, “Vacation is always over too soon!”
Nostalgia and reunions
Just last winter, Chase also enjoyed a reunion with D’Angelo, Quaid, and Miriam Flynn at Christmas Con 2023. In a post marking that occasion, Chase wrote, “So happy to have my daughter @em_chases and @alex.baglieri come by and say “hi” at @thats4ent this weekend.”
As far as a formal continuation of the Griswold family’s story in an actual film rather than a fan event, news has been relatively quiet. For those who do want to see these actors together, they do actually have another option on the menu, though. In January, filming launched for The Christmas Letter.
Locals in Utica, where filming started, have dubbed it the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation reunion because it stars Chase, Quaid, and Brian Doyle-Murray, familiar faces among Vacation fans. So far, there’s been no word if Brinkley will join Chase once again, four decades after her character distracted Chase’s while they drove beside one another. But perhaps Vacation fans will be in for a Christmas surprise!
