Kathy Bates showed up in Pasadena, California, over the weekend for a Matlock Q&A event ahead of the series reboot on CBS. While fans were there for the legal drama Matlock, Kathy stole the show with her new look, having lost over 60 Lbs after a drastic lifestyle change.
She wore a white shirt underneath a tailored blue suit, which she accessorized with a minimalist necklace, bracelets, and small earrings. Kathy wore her gray hair in a side part, leaving her wavy curls to sit right on her shoulder, framing her face nearly perfectly.

Madeline proves she is still the unforgettable, witty lawyer as she collaborates with David Del Rio’s Billy and Leah Lewis’ Sarah. Other co-stars include Beau Bridges, Yael Grobglas, and Jason Ritter. Kathy doubles as an executive producer alongside Jennie Snyder Urman, Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen, and John Will.
Kathy Bates’ weight loss journey
Kathy was inspired to shed some pounds after getting diagnosed with type 2 diabetes years ago. Her failing health motivated her to become disciplined, avoiding excessive eating, junk food, and inactivity. She credits her weight loss to “willpower,” noting that it took a lot of it to stop eating like she used to.
She also suffers from lymphedema, which was a side effect of her two-time cancer battles. Thankfully, losing weight has helped her manage the conditions, although she still wears compression socks and has to protect herself from insect bites to avoid flare-ups.
