Elton John recently revealed that it was time to retire from touring after his successful career run spanning decades. He seemed sure of his decision, hence shutting down any future expectations from fans. In his words, there is no going back on his choice, which is influenced by a fair reason.
The 77-year-old admitted that his show in Stockholm, Sweden, during his farewell tour was his last. He feels relieved and looks forward to the next phase with his husband, David Furnish, and their kids, Zachary and Elijah.
Why is Elton John retiring from touring?
According to David, his partner is ready to focus on their family and be more present in his kids’ lives. Elton and David are taking parenting more seriously and want to witness milestones with their 13 and 11-year-olds. They have both been present dads over the years but intend to do more as the boys reach their teenage years.

During his Farewell Yellow Brick Road world tour which lasted from 2018 to 2023, Elton reflected on his career and expressed gratitude to his fans, promising to never forget them. Nonetheless, he still hopes to do a one-off show in the future. Although it hurts to leave the spotlight, Elton has no regrets and continues to relish his amazing shows so far.
Elton’s health issues
Many assumed Elton was getting off work because of his unstable health and a few dangerous falls and surgeries in the past. Last August, he had an accident while at home in Nice, France, which is one of his few injuries so far. He underwent knee replacement surgery in April to correct his bent knee and get back to dancing again.
Elton also struggled with addiction in the past but was able to rid himself of the drugs and now encourages others to do the same. As he parks the touring bus for a stable family life, the music icon intends to release more music as he is not retiring from work.
