Elton John recently shed up to 40 pounds, which caused fans and friends to worry about his health. “Elton’s sudden transformation has sparked widespread fears for his well-being, particularly regarding the risks associated with rapid weight-loss methods,” a source told InTouch.
The 77-year-old’s drastic weight loss has sparked rumors that he may have used the popular weight-loss drug Ozempic. This drug has been associated with other celebrities like Sharon Osbourne and her daughter, Kelly, who said it was an “amazing” way to lose weight without “boring” workouts.
Elton John depends on Ozempic for weight loss
In 2021, during an episode of the Deeney Talks podcast, Elton admitted to being concerned about his weight and health in general. “A lot of my shame comes from the way I’ve put on weight. It’s been with me all my life. I go up and down like a bloody yo-yo!” the singer-songwriter revealed. “But I’ve really concentrated on that during the lockdown, and I’ve had a lot of help from people in the house.”

Recent reports say the music icon has “an addictive personality” and could “go too far” with the semaglutide medication. During the pandemic lockdown, the father of two claimed he “got fit” by walking in the pool and playing tennis. “I just wanted to come out the other side not overweight and feeling that when I go back on tour, I’m going to be the fittest I’ve ever been,” he said.
Elton John’s health problems
Being a type B diabetic, Elton engages “a doctor or nutritionist” to guide him on his healthy lifestyle journey. “There’s no point in moaning about being overweight. You’ve got to do something about it. It’s all come down, again, to what do you want for the rest of your life? I have two kids I want to see and be around as much as possible,” he said, mentioning his sons, Zachary and Elijah, whom he shares with partner David Furnish.
Elton has also made headlines in the past for health challenges, such as a respiratory infection in 2012 and pneumonia in 2020, which led to the cancellation of his concert in New Zealand. He has also been candid about his struggle with addiction, which he claims “nearly destroyed my soul.”
“I so wish I’d never taken a drug. But in the end, unless I’d have got sober, I wouldn’t be the person I am today,” he told CBS News in 2019.
