’80s music legend, Jon Bon Jovi, renowned as the frontman and driving force behind the rock band Bon Jovi, has achieved unparalleled success, with a staggering 130 million records sold globally. Despite his achievements, his journey has not been without challenges.
Two years ago, Jovi faced a setback when he underwent surgery for vocal cord damage. Since then, he has diligently engaged in vocal rehabilitation sessions daily, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to his craft and determination to overcome obstacles. However, in a recent development, the singer provided updates regarding his health, hinting at its potential impact on the direction of his future career.
Jon Bon Jovi says he will quit if his vocal abilities do not fully recover
During a recent interview with The Sunday Times, the 62-year-old discussed the potential impact of declining vocal capabilities on his performances. He expressed concerns that if his voice were to deteriorate significantly, it could compromise the quality of his performances to the extent that he might consider retiring from the stage altogether. “If the singing is not great, if I can’t be the guy I once was then I’m done,” he told the news outlet. “And I’m good with that.”

However, Jovi made it clear that while his statement might imply stepping back from music, he emphasized that it doesn’t signify quitting altogether. He emphasized his dedication to preserving his distinctive sound, stating that any departure from it would fall short of his satisfaction. “There is a big difference between being in a studio and going out on the road. We have just recorded a new album. I sing in vocal therapy every day,” he added.“But I want to perform for two and a half hours a night, four nights a week – and I know how good I can be, so if I can’t be that guy … put it this way, I don’t ever need to be the fat Elvis.”
This latest interview comes after Jovi’s revelation at a Q&A session last week, where he shared that he’s responding exceptionally well to treatment. He also elaborated on his current state, expressing confidence in his ability to sing now that his recovery is progressing smoothly.
“I’m well into the recovery. I’m more than capable of singing. It’s just that for me, the bar is two and a half hours a night, four nights a week, before I say we’re going to go and do any shows,” Jovi admitted. “So I’m well back on the road to recovery – not a day of it’s easy. Every day is a struggle, but I’m more than capable of doing it again. I’m f****ing Bon Jovi!”
