Celine Dion stunned the world again and again with her musical talents as Queen of Power Ballads, and on February 5, Dion stunned again as a presenter at the Grammys. This shocking appearance comes amidst the 55-year-old’s ongoing battle with stiff person syndrome (SPS).
The 66th Annual Grammy Awards kicked off on Sunday, February 4 at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena. It featured highlights starring Joni Mitchell, a new Billy Joel song, and perhaps most exciting of all, Dion’s appearance after the “Think Twice” singer had to postpone her concerts indefinitely while healing. For how joyful fans were, Dion admitted she was exceptionally grateful for last night.

The night continued in a whirl of sparkling outfits and melodious voices until the ceremony reached its final category: it was time to present the Album of the Year Award. As the big moment commenced, “The Power of Love” began to play – and out walked Dion. She was met by a tidal wave of applause, the standing ovation sparking a heartfelt, emotional reaction in her. Dion stunned in a blush pink dress covered in a rich, amber-colored jacket highlighted by shimmering silver jewelry and a warm smile from Dion.

“When I say that I’m happy to be here I really mean it from my heart,” she said as the din quieted. “Those who have been blessed enough to be here,” she continued, “must never take for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives and to people all around the world.”
Dion presented the Grammy for Album of the Year to Taylor Swift in honor of Midnights. Viewers were surprised to see Swift initially not acknowledge Dion as she beelined for her trophy, though some chalked it up to emotions from winning the evening’s highest honor.

The surprise was further fueled by the fact that Dion had not been listed as a presenter for the Grammys at all. The two celebrated artists wrapped up the magical evening with a backstage embrace that had people going wild all over again. But Dion fans have more still to be hopeful about.
Stiff person syndrome is a rare neurological condition that severely impairs a person’s speech and motor functions. Upon the initial onset of Dion’s SPS, Dion said that she would postpone any touring until she was healed, and it was even reported that her days of performing were over. However, these days, Dion’s tone has been hopeful.
“I’m working hard with my sports medicine therapist every day,” said Dion in one of her many updates, “to build back my strength and my ability to perform again, but I have to admit it’s been a struggle.”
“This last couple of years has been such a challenge for me, the journey from discovering my condition to learning how to live with and manage it, but not to let it define me,” she further shared. “As the road to resuming my performing career continues, I have realized how much I have missed it, of being able to see my fans.”
