Food can be very beneficial or harmful to your body. Some foods, healthy or not, can actually do some bizarre things to your body. For example, do you know when you eat asparagus and your pee smells weird after? Asparagus contains asparagusic acid and when your body breaks it down it leads to that smell.
Here are some other foods that do strange things to your body.
1. Carrots
If you eat a lot of carrots, they can actually turn your skin orange. You would have to eat a lot of carrots to notice the orange tint. Carrots are high in beta-carotene, which is a pigment that can cause carotenemia, that orange tint on your skin.
2. Black licorice
If you love black licorice or other black foods, they can actually turn your bowel movements black. However, if you notice black stools and you haven’t been eating black foods or taking iron pills, you need to see a doctor ASAP.
3. Bananas and Gum
Gum can lead to bloating while bananas can relieve bloat. Bananas are high in potassium which can help balance sodium and prevent water retention. Gum can lead to swallowing air which can lead to bloating and gas.
4. Dark chocolate
If you love chocolate, switch to dark chocolate. It has been found to reduce stress and improve mood, memory, and immunity. Yum!
5. Citrus fruits
If you eat a lot of oranges, lemons, grapefruits, and other citrus fruits, they may make you have to pee more often. They are highly acidic and could irritate your bladder. Same goes for pineapples and tomatoes.
6. Cilantro
If you have digestive troubles or IBS, add some cilantro to your diet. It was found to relax the digestive system.
7. Berries
If you suddenly have pink colored pee, see if you are eating pink berries or other foods like beets. However, if the condition lasts when you are not eating these foods, see a doctor.
